I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator than my long time friend and amazing vocalist, Molly Cottrell. We’ve known each other for over a decade, so I felt very comfortable reaching out to her to get the intimacy that I wanted to capture on this song. NOTES

I witnessed Flamenco in a dark cave in Granada, and the performance changed my life. I had never been so moved by music. The passion between the female dancer and the male guitarist was palpable. The pain in her voice and the plucks of his guitar strings created an environment that was felt more than understood. Everyone in the cave knew without words needing to be said. Mi Bailaora is a Flamenco love ballad inspired by my time living in Seville, Spain. This is my Flamenco love story.

Rumble With God

NOTES

Rumble With God is a high energy song that was inspired from a series of unfortunate events that happened with me and my car last year. One car was totaled from a person slamming into me from behind going 45mph while I was stopped. In another event, someone broke into my car while I was surfing. They stole a few thousand dollars in belongings and racked up around $50k on my credit cards.

The lessons I learned were those of letting go of the things you can't control, and detachment from material things that don't hold as much value as once perceived.

That being said, I was PISSED. Aeli pushed me to channel that anger into high energy music. After sending demos of the song to people, and hearing responses like — “HOLY SHIT", "This is 🔥”, "THIS IS SCARY YO", or my personal favorite "THIS SOUNDS LIKE D.ZIMM BOUT TO SLAP SOMEONE”… I realized that this is a special track.

This is a completely different side of D.Zimm than the HORIZONS project. The words are evolving as the seasons change.

Carnal mind is another name for the ego mind. This spoken word track is a follow up from Soul Killa to summarize and move onto the next lesson, patience. Carnal Mind sets the tone for the succeeding track, Slower. We must be patient in life, arguably one of the hardest lessons to learn. In a world with infinite distractions and accessibility to anything we need in just a few taps, it's hard for us to take other aspects of our life slow. Orion is a spoken word track laid down over distorted guitar. After summarizing the last three lessons of ego, patience and love, it's now time to set up an experience of joy and letting go. RaTa is the name of a high priest from ancient Egyptian times. He was deeply connected to the spirit world. He advised Pharaohs and leaders in the Middle East on how to elevate their spirit mind and to best support their people. He was one of the wisest and connected people from this time period, moving from village to village to spread knowledge of the highest power. This spoken word track is meant to help the listener get into a relaxed and meditative state where they can tap into a frequency of higher power.

Stars Align is the first single off of D.Zimm's debut album, HORIZONS. This is a motivational track about life in the flow state. When you find your purpose in life, and put all your effort into that mission, the universe will reward you with whatever you desire. Of course there are trials and tribulations along the way, but without those, the triumph wouldn't be as meaningful. The entire album was created remotely because of quarantine - I recorded in my loft and my producer, Aeli mixed from his studio. We allowed the Ma to work through us freely… and HORIZONS was born.
